Social Economic and Legal Empowerment of Egyptian Women Joint Programme

OverviewJP Egypt Women's Empowerment

Women and girls in Egypt encounter multiple, intersectional challenges that affect their ability to fully participate in socio-economic life. The Egypt Women’s Empowerment Joint Programme addressed several inequality gaps and made contextually-relevant contributions to advance gender equality and the empowerment of women by targeting three pillars: social, legal, and economic empowerment.

Aligned with the UNDAF for 2013–2017, the programme brought local and national stakeholders together to devise programmatic and policy solutions that would break ground for women to engage more in civil society as main agents of change. Programme stakeholders took action to find solutions for ongoing social, economic, and structural challenges and ways of increasing women’s equal participation in society based on citizenship rights.
