From Crisis to Recovery: Financing Coordinated Efforts in the Central African Republic
21 Mar 2014
The launch of the Central African Republic Multi-Partner Trust Fund (CAR MPTF) was announced this morning to Member States at a briefing on the implementation of the Secretary-General’s Six Point Proposal for CAR. The Government of Norway, who co-hosted the event, announced a $2 million contribution to the CAR MPTF in support of various immediate impact projects.
The CAR MPTF provides an accountable, transparent, results-oriented and cost-effective financial instrument to catalyze and channel development assistance to the UN, NGOs and Government to meet short, medium and longer-term priorities.
The UN Deputy Special Representative of the Secretary General / Resident Coordinator (DSRSG/RC) for CAR a.i. encouraged Member States to channel their support through the CAR MPTF, in order to ensure coordinated and coherent stabilization and recovery efforts. A local Steering Committee will be established to provide strategic direction, prioritize needs and make fund allocation decisions in line with national priorities. The DSRSG highlighted that the CAR MPTF has a fast track window to ensure rapid disbursement and operationalization of the immediate impact projects. For more information, visit the CAR MPTF webpage.
