All AWPs address M&E activities. The project support component of the programme includes details on human resources, quality assurance,M&E costs and activities.

The programme will address the  increasing disparities in health, nutrition and water & sanitation services, especially the "unfinished agenda" of poor sanitation and hygiene and high level of malnutrition. In this way, the programme aims to help Viet Nam avoid the "MIC trap." Attention is also given to emerging issues like child safety. The work consists increasingly of supporting respective policies and strategies as well as knowledge management to promote a more coherent policy agenda, sustainable capacity and systems strengthening of the Government to address these issues.

From 2009 Child Survival and Development Programme was created to address child survival problems in a more comprehensive efficient manner, following the recommendations of the 2008 MTR. The experienced staff of three thematic programmes, Health and Nutrition, Water, Environment and Sanitation, and Child Injury Prevention (CIP) were re-organized  to work for policy and knowledge management and for Capacity building and system strengthening. Implementation structures are in place based on the Country programme and AWPs are implemented in a timely manner.

The AWP components of Maternal  and Child Health are joint work with WHO and UNFPA, and in each of them the division of labour is  identified. Child injury prevention (CIP) work is carried out in collaboration with WHO. In WES, close collaboration with WHO and UN Habitat under PCG 5 Common Action Plan.
