About

The JP on Environment (JP 11) was designed to support nationwide broader interventions that address climate change, land degradation/desertification and natural resources management.

Key Achievements

During the reporting period, a number of significant outputs were achieved. Firstly, a Handbook on Clean Development Mechanisms (CDM) was produced to guide the identification, initiation and up-scaling of CDM projects in the country. An Environment Information System with linkages to MDAs was also established and operationalised. Mechanisms for knowledge and information sharing on the management of Tanzania’s biosphere reserves among key stakeholders was developed and senior management and technical officers of environment-related MDAs were sensitized on the role of new technologies in the management of Biosphere Reserves. The practical skills of key MDAs in undertaking strategic environmental assessments increased through training.

Overall, the JP succeeded in bringing together UN agencies and key stakeholders to address environmental issues in the country whilst building on their respective strengths and synergies.
