Programme Description:

This project was developed as one of the objectives of the One UN Programme 2007-2010 “Building Capacities for Development” in Uruguay. 

The project will: Develop an analysis of the situation of civil society organizations in Uruguay (capabilities, strengths, weaknesses, and deficit), generate a discussion and disseminate the results of the analysis, and develop activities that strengthen civil society organizations especially in the interior of the country seeking to reinforce their institutional capabilities to achieve their objectives.

 

Development Goal: 

UNDAF 4.  By 2010, the country will have advanced in the adjustment of national legislation and practices to its international commitments, and in the strengthening of public and civil institutions for the design, execution, monitoring and evaluation of public policies.

Outcome:

One UN Programme 4.2 “Policies on decentralization and promotion of citizen participation in the territory will have been supported by 2010.”

 

Outputs and Key Activities:

1.1     The “CIVICUS” index for civil society is developed in Uruguay.

2.1     International seminar on civil society with the participation of representatives from the 10 countries in the region and other continents with the objective of evaluating the state of the national society.

3.1     Four centres for the Civil Society Organizations networks have been installed din four Departments in the interior of the country.

3.2     Training workshops for Civil Society Organizations and their networks.

4.1     Monitoring and evaluation matrix for the One UN Programme has been elaborated with the participation of the UNS, the Government and the Civil Society networks.

 

Procurement:

Procurement activities will be conducted through UNDP, UNESCO, UNFPA, and the national implementation partners.
