About
Project Description: UNDP will provide one vehicle to MoJ to enable the Government to begin prosecuting cases in Maryland County. The substantial backlog of criminal cases due to lack of prosecution by MoJ has led to increased tension and violence. Failure to prosecute cases is directly linked to lack of vehicle.
Peacebuilding Impact: Decreased tension in Maryland County caused by backlog of cases and delayed trials, especially land over land conflicts.
Outcome(s): Recent violence is stopped and that the sustained presence of the County Attorney will result in decreased caseload and increased prosecutions.
Outputs and Key Activities: One vehicle immediately provided to MoJ by UNDP. MoJ staff and officials have sustained presence in Maryland County and extend rule of law through prosecuting cases and solving pending judiciary issues.
Indicator and Benchmarks: - Delivery of vehicle to MoJ. - Presence of MoJ’s officials in Maryland County to address pending judiciary issues. - Delayed administration of justice is advanced, resulting in reduction of violence and prevention of future incidents of this kind in Maryland County.
Procurement: Acquisition of a vehicle (truck).
