About
The Joint Program on Agriculture, Rural Development and Poverty Reduction JPC3 Empowerment, Mobilization and Protection of Poor and Vulnerable Groups: The focus in 2010 of JPC3 Empowerment, Mobilization and Protection of Poor and Vulnerable Groups was also on tackling child labour and bonded labour. 1,000 bonded labourers from Punjab were supported to obtain NIC; two awareness-raising events for bonded labour and the first national conference on child labour were held all three with participation by a wide range of stakeholders; a baseline survey of capacity to address bonded and child labour was conducted in four districts; and capacity building workshops were held in Sahiwal and Pakpattan to activate District Vigilance Committees to address bonded labour. Alternative dispute resolution was promoted through support for the revival of dormant Musalihat Anjuman. These received 1,365 disputes, of which 97% were settled, and 23% related to women's cases. A total of 110 judges and 17 District Attorneys were also trained in ADR. The Y-PEER network was established, 140 youth were trained in peer education, and a national conference on the 'Youth Bulge' was held, leading to the formation of the National Youth Advocacy Platform. Other initiatives included promotion of a social contracting system with the Departments of Social Welfare in Sindh and Punjab, mobilization of the EVAW Alliance, and sensitization of women leaders from eight District Disaster Management Authorities and 16 CSOs on gender issues to address women's needs during post-floods reconstruction and rehabilitation.
