About
Social Protection is the second theme of the MGDS as well as in the UNDAF in respect of alignment to the MDGS. Investing in meaningful social protection for the poorest, can contribute to poverty reduction, local economic growth and investment in social development as not only the well-being of individuals (health, nutrition, education outcomes) improves but also the access to social services. Social protection contributes to meeting the MDG’s 1,2,3,4,5 and 8 and is highly recognized as one of the mayor contributors to development cooperation. The UN is supporting the outcome: “By 2011, the ultra-poor are sufficiently care for and protected as are the vulnerable who can be negatively impacted by economic shocks and disasters.”, through two concrete outputs, one at the policy and institutional capacity building level and the second one is to build government coordination and information management systems to be able to deliver social protection programmes at scale to in the end assure that an increased proportion of vulnerable groups benefit from social protection by 2011.
