Project Description:

The project supports the effective transitional justice mechanisms which will strengthen the peace process and promote a society built on respect for the rule of law and human rights.

 

Development Goal:

Peace process strengthened on the basis of respect for the rule of law and human rights including by dealing with human rights and international humanitarian law violations connected to the conflict.

Immediate Objective:

Assist the Government of Nepal (GoN) to establish effective transitional justice mechanisms and support the society built on respect for the rule of law and human rights, including through the active participation of the marginalized groups, women at the grassroots level.    

 

Outputs and Key Activities:

Outputs

  • Ministry of Peace and Reconstruction (MoPR) conducting effective preparations for the creation of the Commissions and providing necessary support in the on-going work of the Commissions.
  • Transitional justice Commissions working effectively and in accordance with international human rights standards.
  • Mapping documents with research and analysis on conflict related international human rights and humanitarian law.
  • Civil society and National Institutions are supporting the work of the Commissions.

Key Activities

  • Support to the MoPR-led consultation process, compilation of consultation reports and public outreach strategy.
  • Advice on legislation and policy to MoPR.
  • Training for MoPR and Support to the development of databank of conflict victims.
  • Technical Justice Policy Advisor and other expertise to the Commissions.
  • Support to the Commissions on information management, special investigation and analysis and outreach.
  • Comprehensive mapping of the conflict-related human rights and humanitarian law violations.
  • Strategic workshops for civil society on transitional justice.
  • Awareness raising activities on the grassroots level.
  • Production of materials and modules on transitional justice and gender.
  • Psycho-social support to victims.
  • Support to victims’ documentation.
  • Support to related Public Interest Litigation activities.
