About

Programme description:

With this project, the Department of Civil Protection (DPC) with the support of IOM, and in coordination with the Ministry of Public Works, aims to continue the work began under the Interim Haiti Recovery Commission (IHRC)-approved project, funded and executed by the Clinton Foundation (with technical support from IOM), to address community-level disaster preparedness capacities. This project will work towards that goal through the provision of essential disaster risk reduction training activities at the communal and local levels, the establishment of evacuation shelters and the reparation of community buildings which may be used as evacuation shelters in case of hurricane which were damaged during the 12 January earthquake.

 

Global objective: 

To augment the GoH’s capacity, particularly in disaster preparedness, and to facilitate recovery in line with the Governmental Action Plan for National Recovery and Development of Haiti.

 

Immediate outcomes: 

  • To enhance the capacity of DPC in camp and community-level disaster preparedness;
  • To contribute to improved resiliency of vulnerable populations; and
  • To provide safe space for the most vulnerable populations in case of tropical cyclone.
