2.25.1. Legal and regulatory framework for food control strengthened Food borne disease surveillance and food contamination monitoring programme strengthened and food safety education improved The programme will support the development of legislatives concerning food safety, which need to be in line with WTD agreements. Import and export is increasing due to the MIC status. Regulations need to be developed, revised and adapted. Food safety surveillance should be balanced with the increasing import of foodstuffs. Thus, surveillance systems need to be strengthened. Reference: WP2010VNM CSR (top task 14) 1) MDG 4: Reduce child mortali!x: There's a direct link in between food borne disease and child mortality. From the 2,2 million people who die from Food borne diseases in national and sectoral developing countries 1, 8 million are children. Thus all deliverables on FOS are linked with contributing to the achievement of MDG 4. All the deliverables are in line with the targets of the national food hygiene and food safety 2006- Both international treaty obligations are incorporated in the policy making process, which will be empowered by supporting the development of legislative documents on food safety, training on law enforcement and efficient legislation development.
