About

Project Description:

This project seeks to stimulate the conflict-affected and under-developed economy of East Sudan through specific attention to the exclusion of women. The project will employ a rights based approach and conflict sensitive planning tools. The project provides immediate peace dividends through access to micro-finance, job creation and small business opportunities –not only addressing critical issues of feminised poverty but also generating confidence in the The East Sudan Peace Agreement from 2006 and reconstruction process. This in turn addresses pervasive socio-political issues such as under-employment and discrimination which threaten the stability of East Sudan and the sustainability of peace.

PBF Priority Area:

Area 3: Early Economic Recovery and Immediate Peace Dividends

PBF Outcome:

Early revitalization of the economy, e.g. through promotion of partnerships with private sector to develop micro enterprises and youth employment schemes; revitalizing agricultural sector, technical support to design more inclusive and sustainable policies for the management of natural resources, etc.

Key Project Activities:

-         Amplifying women’s economic opportunities by building their skills and provide them access to information and resources.

-         Promoting women’s roles in the local tribal socio-economic structures and improves their access to land and other resources.

-         Integrating women’s priorities on reconstruction plans and projects at the state and federal levels.

Promote the social, civic and economic rights of women in Eastern Sudan.
