JP Gender Nat Resources Peace

OverviewJP Gender-Responsive Natural Resource Management for Peacebuilding

As primary providers of basic needs in households and communities, women living in rural settings tend to be dependent on natural resources to sustain their families and earn an income. This makes them particularly vulnerable to changes in the availability and quality of resources during and after conflict with implications on community welfare in peacebuilding settings, where up to 40% of households are headed by women.

To unlock this peacebuilding potential, stakeholders operating under the Gender-Responsive Approaches to Natural Resource Management for Peacebuilding Joint Programme closed gaps in the humanitarian-development nexus, coming up with novel solutions to address the natural resource issues women may have faced in post-conflict settings.
