About

Programme description

The "Cote Sud Initiative" is a long-term recovery and sustainable development framework and associated set of programmes and projects for 10 Communes in the southwest region of the South Department of Haiti. The 20-year vision of the CSI is the recovery and sustainable development of the entire land area of 780 km2, marine area of approximately 500km2 and its population of approximately 205,000.

The Haiti Southwest Sustainable Development Project (21-month $8,000,000) effectively launches the Cote Sud Initiative. It aims to both develop the necessary long-term foundation for the initiative and to deliver practical benefits to the population by the end of 2011. Its core activities from October 2010 – March 2012 will be:

  • Mobilization of the Support Programme – the foundation of the CSI;
  • A detailed baseline assessment;
  • A 5-year and 2012 planning process;
  • A wide range of technical development and practical field oriented activities.

This one of six projects expected to contribute to the CSI in 2011.
