 Expected results: Development of skilled birth attendants (SBA) plan; pilot of maternity waiting homes in remote districts; strengthened newborn care at different levels of the health system

The project will contribute to address disparities in access to maternal and newborn care services to address and will focus on maternal and newborn survival and health (MDG 4 MDG 5).

 They are directly linked to MDG 4 and MDG 5 and partially linked to MDG 1 and MDG 6; they also linked national development to national priorities as described in Viet Nam National Action Plan on safe Motherhood in Viet Nam 2003- 2010 and the Achieving the MDG Interventions for reduction of maternal and newborn mortality in Viet Nam 2006-2010; they are also in agreement with the WHO/UNICEF Regional Strategy on Child Survival, the WHO Reproductive Health Strategy.

 The Safe Motherhood is one of the National Target Programmes of the Government of Viet Nam. Increasing achievement of national access to skilled care at birth is a priority of the Government achieve MDG4 and MDG5. The support from WHO will include policy and strategy development,appropriate. technical assistance, supplies and equipment and capacity building. (WHO GSM WP.201O.VNM.MCH)
