Project Description

The project will support the implementation of the Joint Action Plan to end and prevent the recruitment and use of children by the Tatmadaw, to identify, verify and discharge underage recruits still associated with the Tatmadaw as well as support their reintegration back into their communities. The government and in particular the Ministry of Defense and Tatimadaw closely collaborates with the TFMR in all elements of the JAP providing and facilitating access to battalions and recruitment units. Joint development, implementation and assessment of wok plans involving new directive and revisions of practice and new policy on recruitment allows for the work of CTFMT to be fully institutionalized in the recruitment and monitoring regimes.

The project also aim to strengthen prevention and accountability for perpetrators of underage recruitment which not only promote the overall protection of children from armed conflict but offers an opportunity for confidence building among different groups in Myanmar. Increased engagement towards the signature of Action Plans with listed non-State Armed Groups will also provide for strengthening of the ongoing peace process.
