This proposed evidence based intervention is a continuation of MCS’ peace building programming in Al Salam and Belil localities, designed to address the recurrent peace building needs in a sustained manner to mitigate the future dependency of the target communities on external assistance, thus leading them towards self-reliance. The ongoing conflict has limited the role of the native administration and other traditional structures, where women are excluded from intertribal/inter-community decisions. This needs to be addressed with a focused approach on sustainable community based interventions with an option to generate revenue to sustain their functionality.

This intervention seeks to address these gaps and generate the following results: revitalizing the existing popular committees into inclusive and effective CBRM with clear ToR and the option to generate the needed resources to sustain; developing Early Warning Network (EWN) based negotiation and dialogue over access to migratory routes - supporting initiatives to reduce competition over water resources and pastures through establishing appropriate mechanisms for their co-management and conservation; rehabilitating schools, local markets, and water sources to bring diverse and conflicting communities together around shared interests for better interaction/cooperation to establish mutual trust; and establishing locality level EWN for conflict management/mitigation and linking it with similar networks to facilitate information sharing and consultation.
