Project Description:

Training for youth to develop their professional, vocational and entrepreneurial capacities for their active participation and engagement in the national economy.


Peacebuilding Goal:

To strengthen peace consolidation by addressing the challenge of high unemployment prevalent among Guinea-Bissau’s youth as a peace-multiplier measure, thus reducing the possibility of youth being targeted for recruitment by armed factions during civil conflicts and their involvement in clandestine migration, drug trafficking and organized crime.


Immediate Objective:

Development of capacities of national youth institutions to tackle youth unemployment issues; provision of vocational training for youth; and support, including through micro-credit schemes, for youth in employment opportunities and the formulation and development of income-generating projects.


Outputs and Key Activities:


- Capacity of national institutions handling youth issues and professional training is developed;

- Information and sensitization campaigns for youth on employment opportunities are carried out; and

- Training is provided and support is given for remunerative employment, formulation of projects and access to micro-credit financing.


- Evaluate capacities of national youth institutions for training and support;

- Evaluate capacities of and provide support to youth training centres, including training of trainers and provision of equipment; and

- Provide training and assistance to youth in development of entrepreneurial skills and project formulation and monitor youth involvement in national economy.


Indicator and Benchmarks:

- Establishment of management and support structures for youth employment;

- Enhancement in rate and numbers of youth employed through this project; and

- Guidance and monitoring through reporting structures and regular feedback.
