CHF-DMA-0489-164ER “Emergency Provision of Dignity Kits and NFIs to New Conflict and Drought-Displaced Women and Children  in 10 IDP camps in Mogadishu”- 96,697$

UNHCR reported that at least 17,000 displacements have occurred from Mogadishu since 23 February, of whom 8,000 fled the city and another 9,000 moved to calmer districts in Mogadishu including the 10 target IDP camps. The intensifying conflict has lead to unprecedented displacements in which women and girls are the worst affected. They are living in deplorable conditions without basic shelter provision and household items.

The project targets the most vulnerable 2,000 women and girls who are newly displaced and live in precarious conditions. The target beneficiaries’ needs are clothing and underwear, basic hygiene kits and minimum NFIs. SSWC will distribute these items in the 10 mentioned IDP camps in Mogadishu.

CHF-DMA-0489-179ER “Provision of emergency relief to new IDPs displaced to Baidoa town and to Afgooye corridor”- 445,387$

In recent months a regular daily influx of IDPs has reached the town of Baidoa and the corridor of Afgooye, due to the drought, the food insecurity and the recent TFG-Amisom offensive in SCZ. The local community arranged a very basic humanitarian response, but the increasing number of IDPs requires an urgent comprehensive response.

The aim of this proposal is to provide emergency relief to 37,500 IDPs (6,250 HHs) recently displaced to Baidoa town, in Bay region, and to 12,500 new IDPs (2,500 HHs) displaced in Afogooye corridor (Lafoole and Hawa Cadbi Sector) in Somalia. In Baidoa the target groups identified as beneficiaries of this life saving intervention, are currently hosted in two large fields located between the centre town and the Airport. Local Authorities identified the ex-ministry of public works compound and the ex-radio Warsan compound to establish respectively so called Imaamo-Shafi IDP camp and Ibnu-Abaas  IDP camp. In Afgooye corridor the target group has been identified in the sector of Lafoole and Hawa Cadbi, where INTERSOS has been implementing several interventions since four years. In these sectors of the corridor, the influx of new IDPs has increased significantly in the last two months, and we estimate at least 12,500 new IDPs in vulnerable households to be supported through this proposal.
