Joint Program 3 on Education

JPC4 Secondary and Technical and Vocational Education:

Under JPC4 Secondary and Technical and Vocational Education, a roundtable on TVET held in Muzaffarabad discussed two crucial themes, 'Industry-Institution Linkages', and 'Promotion of TVET as a Decent Education and Career Option'; the recommendations will be fed into the National roundtable planned for 2011. Specific measures to improve availability and quality of secondary school education and TVET included supply of science and maths teaching kits and furniture to five schools; provision of additional equipment and furniture to five ICT centres in schools, and establishment of ICT labs in government girls' schools in six districts. With regard to TVET, 460 women were trained in industrial stitching, merchandizing, pattern cutting and quality assurance in Faisalabad, Karachi, and Lahore - over 90% of these found employment in industrial units; 60 women received advance entrepreneurship skills training in Faisalabad; and workshop buildings for Women Industrial Schools were completed in Bagh and Hajira (PAK). These measures also show the stress on promoting women's participation in vocational and technical training.
