Programme Description After the official declaration of a cholera epidemic, made on September 30th, 2011 by the Central African Republic Ministry of Health, a crisis coordination committee has been created by the Government with the participation of UNICEF, WHO and international NGOs. Although the origin of the disease as not been officially identified, most affected have been the villages along the banks of Oubangui River about 80 kilometers south of the capital, Bangui. The project aims to contribute to the reduction of morbidity and mortality linked to cholera for children aged under-five and women through appropriate prevention and sensitization measures and in supporting the government’s capacity to manage a cholera outbreak.
