Peacebuilding Goal:

The projects aims, through an improvement in the living and working conditions of military personnel in the barracks, at creating enabling conditions for a successful implementation of the Government’s SSR Programme, including improved conditions to help transform Guinea-Bissau Armed Forces into a modernized, professional and disciplined Republic defence force. This will help strengthen ongoing efforts at post-conflict peace consolidation and development.


Immediate Objective:

Rehabilitation of 33 military barracks to help improve the quality of life and working conditions of military personnel and initiate an infrastructural regeneration and modernization programme within the Government SSR Programme.


Outputs and Key Activities:


- Infrastructure, including offices and depots, dormitories, cooking houses and dining halls, bath houses and other service areas in 33 military barracks in 11 localities, are rehabilitated through targeted refurbishment works;

- Electrical installations and circuits are inspected, rewired, repaired and functioning normally; and

- Water bore holes are refurbished and new ones built.


- Rehabilitate 33 military barracks in 11 localities in Guinea-Bissau;

- Inspect electrical installations and take remedial action; and

- Rehabilitate water bore holes


Indicator and Benchmarks:

- Reports and auditing (improved military health statistics, working conditions and other social indicators);

- Monitoring of progress with Government SSR Programme;


Procurement: Building and construction materials, Transport and Other Equipment and technical assistance.
